Landscaping also known as grounds keeping, can be defined as an activity that involves modification of visible features of an area of a particular land. These features include; natural elements like elevation, terrain shapes and land forms or water bodies and living elements like fauna or flora, in one word we call it gardening. Gardening is the art and craft of planting plants with aim of creating an appealing appearance of the landscape. Lightening conditions and weather are abstract elements which are part of the features. Keeping the landscape clean, attractive, healthy and safe mostly in parks, gardens, estates , institutional settings and yards is what is called landscape maintenance.
A groundskeeper with the right tools, physical exertion, knowledge, skills and supplies will be able to plant and harvest, to do lawn care; fertilizing and weeding periodically, gardening, path and driveway maintenance, snow removal, fencing, lighting, topiary, swimming pool care, irrigation, runoff drainage in purpose of protecting and improving the garden accessories, topsoil and plants. Groundskeeper should be able to create means or repelling or attracting desired local animals such as insects, birds, reptiles, domestic animals and pets. A koi pond can be put in a garden if the garden is to be designed to contain exotic animals. It is the responsibility of a groundskeeper to provide and maintain the habitat of wild animals when it comes to larger landscapes.
Lawn maintenance is the maintenance of an area covered by plain grass or other plants like clover which is almost similar to landscaping. Lawn is typically comprised of species of grass, which is aimed to practices that helps maintain its color green and mowed on a regular basis to maintain a certain height. The type of grass grown and the climate zone affects the establishment and care of seasonal lawns.
The best time to start planting grass is usually early autumn and summer and also spring but before starting to plant first aerate so that you can allow the roots to go deeper and make the turf thicker. Some may go for another way called turfing which can provide an instant lawn. In most temperate climates and in any season you will not have any problems going with the turfing method. A rough lawn can be maintained by regularly cutting the grass with a suitable machine or you can go for grazing by animals. Lawns are maintained twice a week if the region has hardiness zones, if it is in the rainy season or hot.
In order to do construction you will need to do studies and observations because the landscape is not the same on different parts of the world. Understanding the site is vital that’s why the same is done while doing landscaping or lawn maintenance.
